The artist
Sarah Simonds is a UK-based fibre artist.
Her work is held in private and commercial collections internationally.
Working with handwoven, knotted, and coiled forms, her practice explores material, movement, and ecology. Using plant fibres—many locally foraged—she creates tactile, biodegradable pieces that reflect a quiet sensitivity to form, texture, and place.
Background
Rooted in an early engagement with woodland craft, her approach is process-led and grounded in traditional techniques, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. A limited number of commissions and consultancy projects are undertaken, with work placed in private interiors, curated environments, and selected film and television settings.
Process
“My work begins with locally gathered plant materials, which I process and transform. I combine these with fibres such as jute and raffia to extend the material language into larger, more expansive pieces.”
“I work with foraged plant materials which I coil and construct using a waxed thread. The thread provides the structural integrity that allows the vessels to hold their form over time.”

I’m a believer that you can create something very special out of very little.
