Calling all restless creatives - Join me in my garden studio, nestled amongst the tree ferns for your choice of 3 hour workshops. Under my guidance you will get hands on experience with all the techniques I use in my personal practice in contemporary basketry.
All materials are supplied and you’ll come away with what you’ve created plus the confidence and knowledge needed to produce your own innovative basket work, a skill you can continue to use.
Note: Although not essential I recommend taking my ‘Introduction to Raffia coiled basketry workshop’ before commencing other courses.
Raffia Coiled Basketry
An Introduction
You will learn about the origins of Raffia and we will look at different coiling techniques. During our time in the studio, together we will focus on the wrapping techniques that you will put into practice by creating your own wonderfully tactile sample, learning how to hand shape and form your work too.
Raffia Coiled Basketry Techniques
Intermediate - Thread
Learn the art of raffia coiling using thread, where under my guidance, you will build on your existing knowledge to create patterns and detail with thread as well as the knowledge required to hand shape and form your work.
Raffia Coiling Techniques Intermediate - Colour
Get to grips with colour techniques, introducing new depth of texture and pattern with your coiling. Work with limitless colour combinations to build on your existing knowledge and lert your creative vision run riot.
Recycled Textile Coiled Baskets
Sadly ~ 1.75m tonnes of clothing and textile waste is created in the UK. This class is designed to be an inspiring and resourceful way to create something wonderful out of something that would be otherwise discarded. Learn to utilise and recycle your own textiles, combining colour, shaping and finishing to make your own unique sample to take home - All materials are supplied, however if you have any fabric would like to incorporate, bring it along!
An Introduction to Twining
You will be Introduced to the art of twining. We will explore a few of the many fibre options that can be used to create soft organic hand shaped forms inspired by Nature. This will include an introduction to basket starter techniques, twining, shaping, and how to finish your basket.
